Excited to launch Senior SWE-Bench, an open-source benchmark that assesses agents as senior engineers on long-horizon tasks with realistically under-specified instructions. We expect agents to build real features going on just a quick Slack message, nothing like the super technical instructions most benchmarks provide. Senior SWE-Bench fixes that.
Claude Opus 4.8 is the current leader at 24% high quality solves, but it took 117K tokens on average to get there. GPT-5.5 earns the silver medal super efficiently (an average of only 36K tokens).
Senior SWE-Bench tasks represent open-ended feature design or tricky bug investigations in modern, multi-service repos. They’re long horizon and have instructions 1/3 the length of SWE-Bench Pro’s on average. We introduce new methods for adaptive runtime verification and global code quality assessment. And tasks go through multi-stage review to ensure high quality.
